Best Gluten Free Eats at EAT STREET MARKETS Brisbane

Eat Street Markets riverside @glutenfreejoy.com.au

These markets have become a foodie institution for Brisbane, showcasing quality and innovative street food from around the globe in a fun, market style atmosphere. They have become so popular with Brisbanites they have recently expanded to cater for the growing crowds. And gluten free foodies do not have to miss out. Many of the food stalls have gluten free options, and some are 100% gluten free. I have just included those with known coeliac safe food practices, but I suggest you hit Eat Street Northshore’s website (link below) to download their food intolerances info sheet which gives the full run down on gluten free options (as well as DF, V & Vegan). It can get really, really busy, so best to arrive close to opening hours if you want to avoid some of the crowd craziness.

NOTE: Only two of the options reviewed here are currently 100% gluten free, but the rest all have very good coeliac safe practices in place to reduce the risk of cross contamination*

TOP EAT STREET PICKS

Rogue Spice – East Wharf, Container 75

Hands down my favourite savoury option at the markets, and they are currently 100% gluten free! Their slow braised beef brisket and their ribs mains are TO DIE FOR! So much flavour and so so tender. My husband had serious food envy when I had the brisket last time we were there. And don’t forget to sample their fried chicken…sooo good! Please note, while all of their food is currently gluten free, they have mentioned this may change from time to time with new sauces, so always check upon ordering (& ask to speak with owner Shannon if your server is not completely informed). The fried chicken will always be GF (+sep fryer).

L’Apero – Main Deck, Container 31

French street food brings you the Raclette: hot molten cheese smothered over hot potatoes, bacon & fried onion. Hello. Not for the faint hearted or diet conscious, but worth the indulgence.

Slinky’s – Main Deck, Container 24

The good old potato slinky…nothing like a salty fried carb hit to get your taste buds going into overdrive while you suss out the rest of the fare on offer. These are an Eat Street institution, and happily the venue is 100% gluten free.

Head here for some juicy spicy chicken wings and melt in the mouth pork belly served with a yum orange salad.

The Vietnamese Shack – Asia Street, Container 47

They have cute as heck (& really yum!) potato prawns  cooked in a seperate fryer for coeliacs (only coeliac safe at the GFJ events, follow LINK), and their rice paper rolls are all gluten free.

Karinderia – East Wharf, Container 70

Filipino street food with a great range of gluten free options including their pork & chicken skewers and their BBQ corn which is amazing. They can also cater what they call their Boodle Fight menus for a private group, which is a ‘bare hand’ eating feast of entrees, mains, dessert options, all laid out on banana leaves and eaten as one course. It emphasises seafood and is all gluten free! Contact them directly for more information.

Salty Sailor – Trawler Deck, Container 61

They offer all of their products gluten free, with a dedicated gluten free fryer. So if you have been craving that battered fish and chips experience again, this is the place!

Miss Claudes Crepes

UPDATE: NO LONGER AT EAT STREET

These guys can make both sweet and savoury gluten free crepes, with many of their fillings also gluten free. If you let them know you are coeliac, they employ special coeliac safe practices to reduce cross contamination (separate bench area, gloves etc). I have tasted their Crepes Suzette crepe and Oh My Word it was amazing!

The Dessert Depo – Laneway, Container 22

The quintessentially gluten free poster cake, the humble macaron, can be found here in a rainbow of colours & flavours, just how we like it! And for those poor souls with added dairy intolerance there are several that are also dairy free. They have also recently introduced a yum selection of gluten free cakes/slices….a must try is the Mango & Pistachio creation!

Doughnut Bar – Kombi Alley

Their cinnamon donuts are simply yum and are made in a separate gluten free fryer. They are also dairy free. Always worth a taste test! Plus they have 2 gluten free sauces that you really must try: nutella & strawberry…so good!

Funky Dragon – East Wharf

If you are in need of a hit of Chinese street food or elements of the Yum Cha experience then I suggest you taste test 2 of their specialities, which thankfully happen to be gluten free (& are prepped coeliac safely): dumplings (prawn or pork) & fried rice puffs!
